About Metro Manila

Metropolitan Manila, also known as the National Capital Region (NCR) and Metro Manila, is the pivotal capital region and the largest metropolitan area in the Philippines. Comprising 16 highly urbanized cities and one municipality, it spans 619.57 square kilometers and hosts a population of over 13 million. Renowned for its vibrant culture, robust economy, and influential governance, Metro Manila is a global power city with significant impact on various sectors such as commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, technology, education, and entertainment.

Serving as a key hub for international diplomacy, the region is home to all embassies in the Philippines. Economically, it is the country’s premier center for finance and commerce, contributing 36% to the Philippines’ GDP and ranking as the ASEAN’s fourth largest economy. Established in 1975 to address the needs of a growing population, Metro Manila has deep historical roots, being one of the first provinces to revolt against Spanish colonial rule.
